The Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon has always paid particular attention to the responsible use of resources and environmental protection aspects. Since the previous year, all areas of the organization have also been professionally supported and continuously examined for sustainability. As an interim result, many aspects were noticeably rethought for the participants in 2023. In 2024, the competitions were organized according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Events.
In collaboration with Gerhard Kampits Veranstaltungsmanagement GmbH, an Austrian specialist for green event certification and in cooperation with the Upper Austrian Climate Alliance, active efforts were made to organize the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon as a green event.
"In a time of climate change and constantly rising energy prices, all event organizers are called upon to react to the changes in society. It is our task to raise awareness in society of the need to treat the environment with care. Green event certification for such an important sporting event as the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon sends out a signal that entertainment and exercise are also possible with consideration for the environment. It is not about restrictions, but about the moderate use of resources and about keeping events fun in an intact environment." (Gerhard Kampits)
For a successful implementation, we also rely on the support of our participants and ask them to make an active contribution. Be it traveling by public transport or ensuring that waste is separated correctly.
We kindly ask our participants and visitors to travel by public transportation. With our partner LING AG we try to make this as easy as possible for you:
Further information on environmentally friendly travel by other means of transportation can be found here.
We ask our participants and visitors to avoid waste as much as possible and to dispose of unavoidable waste via the separate collection offered at the event.
